Shatranj Ke Mohre

Sunday: 13th Nov '05

I had planned to sleep through the complete day. But fate had something else for me.
Morning went by asusual. A friend (AJ) asked me to come for a play. I agreed. And so the sleeping plan was dropped and forgotten. Went to Prithvi. Somehow managed to get two tickets. Had to ditch 2 of our other frens for the same. With tickets in hand, we went for a beer. And very casually entered the theatre about 45 sec before 6. As usual, we were the last one to enter. Being a free seating system we were left with no seat. But perhaps we got the best seat of the lot. The STAIRS...
The play started at 6:02 PM. And Prithvi, according to my dramatics freak friend, is probably one of the most innovative kind of theatre.
It's a story of about two schools of thinking which is depicted through two main character:
Kakaji, a laid-back 60 year old retired forest officer
And Acharya, an extremely disciplined Gandhian principle follower.

The play had satirically brought out the difference between the two ways of thinking with the help of various characters.
It had some big shots. The name which I could remember are:
Rakesh Bedi, Avtar Gill, Bharat Kapoor, Rajeshwari Sachdev... Rest I can just identify the serials in which they act.
The play made me laugh like anything. After a long time something has made laugh continuosuly. And seriously, I did understand the hidden meaning of the play. The ending to me could have been improved. Instead of Acharya accepting the fact that his school of thnking is not correct, both the main character should have stood for principles.

But one think is for sure, atleast I have realized that instead of wasting my time and money on movies, I would rather go and watch plays.
After the play had dinner at Alfredo's. And the day ended with Toto's; as usual !!`

Watched a play, really good one, called "Graffiti" when I was in class 9. Directed and acted in by Roshan Abbas of "Public Demand" fame. (remember?) and choreographed by shiamak davar. Been the best experience so far. So, Hell yeah.. I agree.
btw, soccer games are fun to watch too, if own teams are involved. (And, some more posts on my blog. go check out. Don't miss the classic :))

seriously...dude...I am in Mysore where you wudn't cry wasting money on movies....the money is hardly 30-40 bucks....(50 bucks when they sell in black)...but the pathetic thing is I waste money and time without entertainment... how I wish I had been able to attend plays like you... Mysore hosts shows but they are mostly Kannada...

its time to learn Kannada, eh ?
